Bluegirl Basketball

Well, as most of you know this was the last year of Bluegirl Basketball due to the convergence with LaHarpe and Dallas City. To honor the program, they held a Bluegirl Reunion game that took place before the Carthage v. Keokuk game back in January. All former Bluegirls/Coaches were invited to attend. Of course, I was not going to miss out on my last opportunity to play in the Bluegirl gymnasium. Although I lost a step or two, it was a lot of fun! Surprisingly, they split the teams up accordingy to which coach they played for. So, Coach Biery had all of his girls and Coach Lapp had all of his girls. It was pretty competitive until the second half. Carthage recently lost in the first round of Sectionals which officially ended the Bluegirl Tradition. It is so sad for me to think about all the girls who will miss out on the chance to carry on this winning tradition and to be called a "Bluegirl." Unless you have poured in the sweat and tears that so many of us have, you will never realize how much it means to be a part of Carthage Bluegirl Basketball. I know our coaches and players will pass on many of the fundamentals and ideas to the new program, but to me, it will never be the same. I wish our community had fought harder to keep the Bluegirls and Blueboys alive. (Granted, I cannot say much as I never voiced my opinion until it was too late.)
Back in the pre-game huddle with Coach Lapp. He was not quite as fired up as the old days! I didn't even get yelled at for not boxing out!
Ada getting ready to grab the tip! She's still got ups!
Here I am checking my feet as I almost forgot you had stay behind the line when shooting free throws!
Gavin's first and last trip to the Bluegirl Gymnamsium.

Coach Biery's team is in white. Coach Lapp's team is in blue. We had a pretty good turnout!

Former teammates Rachel Sullivan-Houston, Adrienne Dickerson, and Andrea Fleming. We have some great memories together!

Former Culver teammates and mommies Deanna Twaddle and Rachel.

Gavin really like Ada! I think she's a natural!

I couldn't have said it better Alisha. We will cherish our Bluegirl memories forever...using our summer vacations to go to summer camps and carry luggage, going to every game early enough to watch them sweep the floors for our pick of seats, being proud the Bluegirls always carried themselves with class, biting our nails at intense games, dad yelling "that's terrible", etc. It was so much fun watching all of you play one last time. I hope your children will get the same opportunities someday. We were and are so proud of you! We love you dearly Alisha Mae!!!

I know you had a blast playing one more time, Alisha--would have loved to have been there and watched you and made a fool of myself yelling!! Well, maybe not so much since you were playing one another and not another school, huh? Looks like Gavin was having alot of fun too! Some day, I'm sure he'll be playing somewhere as well! Be here before you know it, too! He sure is growing and getting cuter all the time!! Can't wait to get hold of him! Miss you SO MUCH!! Not sure when we'll get to go see you--G'Pa's eyes aren't doing very good. Due to the macular degeneration, they don't want to do surgery to remove the cataract on his good eye, so we're asking God to do the surgery Himself! Love the pictures and captions--keep it up! Love all of you!! God bless you!!
