Tonight we went to see the Snake Man to kickoff the local library's summer reading program. Although the guy claimed to have been doing speaking appearances for years, he did not know his audience! He had about 30-40 preschoolers who were there to see snakes, not hear about how much money he makes selling snakes or how much his buddy makes selling them on Ebay. He even told us that he would ask questions after he spoke about each snake, but that he was going to ignore the children who had their hands up because they would just want to tell him stories about snakes they had seen and that would just take too long. I should have gotten up and left then! I guess it was worth it in the end when Gavin actually got to pet them. We almost talked him into putting the big snake on his shoulders, but he screamed "no"!

Icky, ick, ick. I am not afraid of snakes, but I still am not a fan. Especially of those mammoth ones. I'm glad Gavin liked it though. Too bad the guy wasn't a good presenter for kids.
Ditto Emily. He started pulling the snakes out with the very small ones in jars. Then he moved to a cooler where the snakes were kept in pillowcases. Every snake he'd pull out would be bigger than the next one. I don't remember how many snakes we saw until we saw the super duper big one. The snake man asked if Gavin was with me. I said yes and he said, "are you ready to put the snake around your shoulders?" But as Alisha said, he said no. The snake man said to give him time. We did and tried again but Gavin still would have nothing to do with having it put on his shoulders. I can't say as though I blame him. Snakes give me the creeps. Also agree with Alisha that the snake man needs to learn his audience. He was interesting for adults but the show was SUPPOSE to be for all the kids. They got bored very quickly.
